Finnish presidency 2023-2024 focuses on child trafficking

The German Presidency of the CBSS Expert Group on Children at Risk prioritised the protection of children and adolescents from sexual violence.
On 1 July 2021, Norway took over the Presidency from Lithuania. Focuses for Children at Risk will include the impact of Covid-19, and on building trust between the child protection systems in the region.
The presidency featured a conference “Children’s emotional health: what achievements the countries can be proud of and what challenges remain unresolved”. It further investigated the role of Barnahus in the identification and investigation of child trafficking and the support and assistance provided to victims.
In adopting these documents, the Expert Group agreed that it will continue to stimulate dialogue and exchange on cross-border concerns, to develop and nurture strategic partnership and to contribute to the development and implementations of tangible projects to promote children’s rights and bolster national child protection systems.
The logo was originally developed for the Non-violent childhoods project, and has been updated with the CBSS colors.
The expert group also ushered in a phase of consolidating its work and taking it to the next level.
At the 1998 Summit in Riga, the Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers supported CBSS initiated cooperation activities on children at risk, which firmly established the regional work and commitment to protecting children at risk under the auspices of CBSS.
The expert group also took up child protection and welfare issues during the year, as well as unaccompanied children.
The logo of the Icelandic Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States represented smiling children who are facing a world of openness, freedom and safety – achieved only through a democratic society where everyone has a voice.
